Year End Tax Packages
Last updated: February 5, 2026
This guide walks you through how to generate, review, edit, and submit T4, T4 a and RL-1 tax packages.
Please note that this feature will not be available in the system until Monday, January 19, 2026.
Getting Started
Navigate to Year End → Tax Packages in the platform.
Select the tax year you want to generate packages for.
You’ll see a list of available tax packages (for example, T4, T4A, RL-1).
The system automatically determines which tax packages the you will need to generate, such as T4, T4A, or RL-1. For example, the option to generate an
RL-1 package will only appear if they have employees whose province of employment is Québec.
How to Generate a Tax Package
From the Year End Tax Package section, locate the tax package you want to generate.
Click Create.
Review and confirm the pre-filled contact information
Important: The contact information may be provided to the CRA or Revenu Québec if there are any submission issues.
Once confirmed, the system will generate tax forms for each eligible employee or contractor.
Recommended: Preview Before Generating
Before generating the final package, payroll admins can download a T4 or RL-1 Preview Report from the Reports section to review employee details and totals. This is a helpful way to verify information such as SINs and addresses, and to confirm that all employees—including terminated employees with year-to-date earnings—have been included.
Note: A preview report is not available for T4A packages, as ATB Payroll does not currently support pre-filling T4A details for contractors.
After the package is generated, a summary will appear in a table view. This summary provides key details about the tax package, including:
Status: Indicates the current state of the package (Draft, Processing, Submitted or Confirmed).
Slips approved: Only slips marked as approved will be included in the submission.
Errors: Displays the number of errors detected within the package.
Date created: The date the package was generated.
Date completed: The date the package was submitted within ATB Payroll
Date submitted: The date the package was submitted to the CRA or Revenu Québec.
Tip: Payroll admins can delete and recreate a tax package at any time, as long as the package status is not Processing, Submitted or Confirmed.
How to Review or Edit Tax Forms
Click into the generated tax package to view details for each individual slip that was created. Within the package, you can:
Use the search bar to quickly find a specific employee or contractor’s slip
Filter the list by slip status or province of employment
View a summary showing the number of approved slips and the total amounts included in the package
To make changes, click into an individual employee or contractor slip to review or edit the details.
Bulk Actions
You can also use the Bulk Actions tool to save time when working with multiple slips. This allows you to:
Bulk approve slips
Bulk set T4 box values, such as Box 45 or Box 50, across multiple slips at once
Tip:
Box 45: Reports whether an employer offered dental benefits, using codes (1-5) to show who was covered (payee, spouse, dependents, etc.) for the Canada Dental Care Plan (CDCP) as of December 31st of the tax year.
Code 1: No access to any dental care insurance or coverage.
Code 2: Access for the payee (employee) only.
Code 3: Access for the payee, spouse, and dependents.
Code 4: Access for the payee and their spouse.
Code 5: Access for the payee and their dependents.
Box 50: Reports an employer's Registered Pension Plan (RPP) or Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP) registration number.
How to Submit Tax Packages
Once your review is complete, you can submit the package directly from the platform
Packages are sent the following business day after submission
Download pdf or email copies of the submitted T4, T4A and RL-1 slips
Important Submission Notes
T4 and T4A packages will not be submitted until January 12, as the CRA submission system is under maintenance until then.
To ensure timely filing, you will need to submit your packages by February 27.
Submissions after February 27 cannot be guaranteed to reach the CRA by the February 28 deadline.
ATB Payroll does not support submitting the RL-1 summary. Clients are required to complete and submit it themselves outside of the system.
How to Amend a Tax Package
If a tax slip has already been submitted and you discover an error, an amendment can be made directly from the original package.
Note: Only Confirmed packages are eligible for amendments.
To get started:
Locate the tax package that was previously submitted and marked as Confirmed.
Open the package and select Amend next to the slip you want to update to begin the process.
Once in amendment mode, update the required information carefully, ensuring all corrected values are accurate.
After reviewing the changes, submit the amended package.
After submission, the amendment will follow the same status flow as the original filing—moving through processing until confirmation is received. Keep in mind that processing times may vary depending on the tax authority.
If additional changes are required later, further amendments can be made by repeating this process on the most recently completed package.
Final Reminder
Year-end tax filing is time-sensitive. Generating and reviewing packages early gives you time to resolve errors, confirm employee information, and meet CRA and Revenu Québec deadlines with confidence.
Ensure your year-end contact information is accurate so the support team can reach out promptly if any submission issues arise.
The most common issue occurs when a previous payroll provider has already submitted a tax package, which can result in duplicated or incorrect earnings. If this happens and the CRA or Revenu Québec contacts ATB Payroll, our support team will reach out to help resolve the issue.
